Project Meeting with the High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka

The NLEAP project meeting with the High Commission of Canada was held on 17th of November 2022 at PGIHS, University of Peradeniya. The meeting was held with the participation of Ms. Linda Ehrichs, Counsellor and Head of Development Cooperation, High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka, Mr. Wipula Dahanayake, Development Officer, High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka, Mr. Michael Emblem Project Director, NLEAP, Mr. M Thirunavukarasu, Deputy Director, NLEAP and Ms. Natalie de Silva Fund Administration Officer, NLEAP. The main objective of this meeting was to meet the PGIHS Project team and discuss about the Research project.

 

 

Project meeting with government officials

The meeting was held on 16th of May 2023 at PGIHS, University of Peradeniya. The meeting was held with the participation of Mr. Anuradha Wijekoon - Additional Secretary (National Language) from the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Ms. Gnanie Wickramasinghe, Ms. Chathuri Jayathilake- Technical Team of the Ministry, Ms. Dishanthi Ekanayaka, National Integration Promotion Assistant, Kandy (NIPA), Mr. Hilaire Lemoine- Director/ NLEAP and Mr. M. Thirunavukarasu- Deputy Director/ NLEAP. The main purpose of this meeting was to monitor the progress of the research project undertaken by the PGIHS. The Project Coordinator, Professor Upul Abeyrathne presented the progress of the project at the meeting.

 

NLEAP Project Knowledge Dissemination Seminar

The NLEAP Project Knowledge Dissemination Seminar was held on 6th of July 2023 at Oak Ray Regency Hotel, Peradeniya. The seminar was organized by the PGIHS. The main objective of this seminar was to disseminate the research findings among the project stakeholders. Professor M.D. Lamawanse, Vice Chancellor, University of Peradeniya participated as the chief guest and the keynote speech was delivered by Professor Arjuna Parakrama. The researchers presented their research findings at the seminar. Professor Upul Abeyrathne highlighted the introduction of the research study and spoke about Language attachment, language shift and endangered languages, Dr. Navarathne Bandara addressed the official language policy and public administration in Sri Lanka, Dr. Rohan Laksiri provided a broad overview of the study methodology, Professor Ananda Jayawickrama presented the Language competence, Minority Languages, Personal and National Well-being and Dr R. Ramesh addressed the conclusion and Recommendation of the study findings. Project stakeholders including public and private sectors, academic communities, civil society and NGOs members participated in the seminar and there were fruitful discussions and suggestions given to further improve the study.
